Sustainable Warmth Grant

Birmingham City Council has obtained Green Homes Grant funding to improve the energy efficiency of low income households and low Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rated homes, including those living in
off gas grid homes across the district.

Applications for this scheme are now closed.

This scheme is now closed for applications but installations will continue for on gas properties until September 2023.

WHAT’S AVAILABLE?

A range of measures have been made available through this scheme, which can reduce and prevent heat and energy loss in the home and reduce energy bills. 

Measures that may be available (subject to survey):

• • • Insulated windows and doors (please note only single glazed windows can be replaced)
    • More energy efficient lighting
    • Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels
    • Cavity wall insulation
    • Draught proofing
    • Loft insulation

CRITERIA

Homeowners and tenants will qualify for funding if the following criteria are met:

1. 1. Your home/property has an energy performance certificate (EPC) rating of D, E, F or G
   2. Occupants/tenants who have an annual household income (before tax) of less than £31,000
          OR – You are a homeowner/private tenant in receipt of means tested benefits.

Please note that if you are a landlord you will be expected to make a contribution to the cost of any work undertaken.

WHO CAN RECEIVE A GRANT?

    • Owner occupiers
    • Private rented sector

All applications are subject to a technical survey and an application acceptance does not guarantee that work will go ahead.

About the scheme

Sustainable Warmth is delivered by Birmingham City Council in partnership with Act on Energy and the Midlands Energy Hub. Sustainable Warmth is funded by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and combines the Local Authority Delivery (LAD) Phase 3 and the Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) Phase 1:

The scheme aims to raise the energy efficiency of low-income and low EPC rated homes including those living in the most inefficient off-gas grid homes, delivering progress towards: reducing fuel poverty, phasing out high carbon fossil fuel heating and the UK’s commitment to net zero by 2050.

Households that are eligible for support through the scheme can benefit from the installation of a range of measures, which can reduce and prevent heat and energy loss in the home, reduce fuel bills, as well as support switches to renewable sources of energy.
